Lego Movie Unlegoed +

This is cropped in a bit but it is pretty much done. I made this Unlegoed pic for Comic Con and I am a big fan of the Lego Movie ... and legos in general. I especially like how Emmet turned out.

The Galloping Griss!
Definitely one of Shel Silverstien's more fun little monters

The Muffer!
Had to work really hard to make him look like the original ... but I think I captured the likeness okay. (read as joke)

The Bloath!
and its white grass

Life is full of variety, and so is this post

So much time, so little artwork

This guy's name is Hector Krom and this is a tiny part of a side project I have been wanting to do for a while and have finally started (kind of). He is a femmy beefcake mercenary ... in space!

I checked out a book from the library filled with animal photos and sketches with the intent to draw them ... instead, that sketchbook page happened. Oops.

Those two are half-done Comic Con pieces (the first is just a cropped selection) Brandon Sanderson's Vin and J.R. Tolken's Sauron, respectively. Both still need a lot of work ... work that I plan to do! eventually ...

The Saverly Slurm!
Of the original book art, this one is alway the most striking to me

 The Tiny-Toed Flustering Phant!
Where/Why/What toes?

The Soft-Shelled Phizzint!
The Anti-hedge hog

'Invaders from Mars' and monsters

This was yesterday's Sketch Dailies topic and I thought it would be a fun opportunity to try something a little different.

The Glub-Toothed Sline!
I upped the green on him and made the brown kinda peely.

The Skittering Skeep!
There actually isn't a picture of this little mustache eater in the book, so he is all made up.

The Gheli
This guy is one of my favorites in Shel Silverstein's book - he just looks so happy! I decided to interpret a couple of the lines in the original drawing to mean his legs were transparent!

Its been too long ...

... but that is because I haven't been Blogging, not because I haven't been drawing. Out of the two possibilities that is the better one.

I am pretty sad right now because a Comic Con painting I have been working on save crashed a few days ago and then today my reattempt digitally vanished ... deletion without representation ... or something involving words.

Anyways, here is an art. It was Friday's sketch daily that I noticed on Saturday right after a brief conversation about Monty Python.

There is also other stuff.

The Wild Gazite!
He is a fun one. Now complete with t-rex arms!

The Pointy-Peaked Pavarius!
The origional is so cute ... I kinda wish I had captured more of that, but otherwise I like it

The Man-Eating Fullit
In the original only showed the tail

Randomness randomized = s n o r m e n a d s

This is a drawing of the main character in a comic I am thinking about making named Griz ... you'll see him a bit more a bit later too.

This is a side character for the same thing ... hes a quirky space prospector!

Here is a picture of Griz I was working on when my computer crashed ... I only saved this much by taking a screen shot durring the error message. Looking at it after the fact ... he is way too cluttered for what I want.

A digital sketch page ... faces mostly (hopefully obviously). The rights were for reference for my Lego Comic Con drawing ... the Uri guy feastures in a short story I am working through writing right now. Currently I just started the third draft.

More Griz! just playing with some ideas.

Super Secret Plans #3 - The Unlegoer!

Comic Con piece #3 is going to be a bit o' Lego Movie Fan Art ... but without the Lego! I am thinking it would be funny to see a lot of the characters look a smidgen more like their voice actors and less like a yellow barrel with a smiley face painted on (insert emoticon here), not that their is anything wrong with that. I myself in a lover of legos and likely have more than most adults have reason to.

So sketch lv.1 here shows me playing around with an unlegoed version of the Lego Movie video game poster that is still hugely cartoony.

The continuation of that sketch as shown here at lv.2 has the starts of me playing around with how human I want to push the characters, this of course being Emmett. Next step: reference and sketchbook pages to get the poses right!

Something I am currently calling done ... and some Silverstein

So, I am calling this done ... for now. I am willing to put my name on it and I am thinking this will be a Comic Con piece for sure.

I tried what you suggested Zach ... think it helped?

The Floop and the Gloppitt!
Neither of these beasties were shown in the book ... so I invented their look

The Terrible Feezus!
... and with a little rotate he has a tentacle-esque jaw!

The Slithergadee!
I am having too much fun with theses "Don't Bump the Glump" monsters ...

Face Practice - Vin

So .. for my Mistborn Comic Con painting I am doing Vin, as seen a few days ago in my thumbnails. But I realize I am at a disadvantage as I dont draw females as often as I should, let alone a specific character. So I picked a few facial features I thought went well with the subject and this this sketch page. Some are better and some are definitely worse.

An Update on Death's Hand

So I didn't get a lot of my Mistborn picture done today but I think this fellow is coming along nicely :) Still have a lot to refine on this bit of Bioware fan art, as well as the cast shadows to add ... but I have upper medium-high hopes!

If all goes well I will have this Comic Con painting done by Sunday. Hoorah for the progress of Mannkind.

Shume more Shel ... and the start of my second Comi Con peice

So my plan is to work on two Comic Con pictures at a time, bouncing back and forth between whichever sounds the most fun at the given moment. I already posted the Mistborn thumbnails I am working with to create piece #1, and now here you see the part of piece #2. I did a pen and marker sketch of Bioware's original IP Jade Empire's villain Death's Hand (that sounds convoluted ... meh), and later tried to digital paint it. I liked how it was going, perhaps a personal best of mine, but thought it would be so much better if I redrew the source material ... so here it is! Deaths Hand for my #2!

It is just linework so far ... but I like it.

And here are more monsters She Silversein's Don't Bumb the Glump poem collection! If you have been counting, this makes nine :)

The Gletcher!
Now seen for the first time!

The Grinch!
Not Dr.Suess' for sure. I made the head a tad too red

The Bibely!
I think this guy is among the most awesome
